Vibrant late-spring green and winter white contrast sharply in this true-color <a HREF="http://modis.gsfc.nasa.gov" target="outlink">Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer</a> (MODIS) image from June 13, 2002 of the Pacific Northwest region of North America. At top is the Canadian province of British Columbia, with the snow-covered Coast Ranges (west) and Rocky Mountains (east) reaching down into (left to right) Washington, Idaho, and Montana. The Columbia River makes a sinuous border between Washington and Oregon to its south. In south-central Idaho, a dark brown patch marks the location of an ancient lava flow on the current Snake River Plain. Sensor: Terra/MODIS. Data Start Date: 6/13/02. Data End Date: 6/13/02.
